ACFL DIVISION 2 - O'Dempsey's too strong for Timahoe
Michael Finlay again put in a fine performance for the victors registering five points, while Timahoe really struggled in front of goal, having to wait until the seventh minute of the second half before registering their opening score.
Barry Kelly got the ball rolling in the second minute with a simple free, but the attendance were forced to wait another 14 minutes for another incidence of note, as both sides were proving erratic in front of goal. Damien O'Connor broke through on goal but his effort was well saved by Pauric Bannon, before Willie Lalor broke through, but saw his shot crash back off the crossbar.
Michael Finlay added a second O'Dempsey's point with a 22nd minute free, before adding a fantastic left foot effort moments later. Finlay added another free in the 28th minute as O'Dempsey's began to take control of proceedings late in the half.
Finlay's brother Darran landed a long range effort before the break, but O'Dempsey's could have been out of sight when they were awarded a late penalty when Stephen O'Leary was felled, but O'Leary got up only to blaze the penalty wide.
Timahoe finally got off the mark seven minutes after the break when Willie Lalor registered a well taken free. Eddie Kelly cancelled this out with a fine point on the turn before Rory O'Connor notched his side's second score.
Substitute Benny O'Connell put over a well taken point to put just three points between the sides as Timahoe looked like mounting an unlikely comeback, but successive efforts from Michael Finlay kept distance between the sides.
Willie Lawlor added another score to give Timahoe renewed hope, and they had a late chance when they were awarded a penalty, but Lalor blazed his effort high and wide as O'Dempsey's held on for the two points.
